My Stone lifting adventure 2010

Postby samurai69 » Fri Oct 15, 2010 3:08 pm

well i have just returned from my first stone lifting trip to scotland and what a great experiance

i managed to lift the dinnie stones 3 times without straps and 1 with straps, whilst there we where introduced to a set of stones (named the nicol stones) that should be available for lifting next year a little heavier than the dinnies

we also attempted the inver stone, but i only managed to lift that to my knees (2 big grazes to prove it) we will be back for that one

we met up with peter martin (V!) peter martins son and we went of to lift more stones, the first being the menzies stone (a real brute of a stone) only just managed to break that off the ground

then off to the fianna, a very interesting stone which i lifted a couple of times and replaced on to its stand

we then went on to the dalness stone (saved the previous week) and managed to rescue its sister stone, two very interesting stones and great fun to lift, pressing the dalness above my head

finally the dahlwinnie, by this time we were far to tired and in pain to lift it properly, i again managed to just break it from the ground

I had been training more for the dinnie lifts this time and on our next journey north i plan on lifting the menzies, inver and dahlwinnie............more specialised training i think will be necessary

all in, a very interesting break, if i was to do it again i would definately have a break between the stoones, attempting the inver and then lifting the dinnies took it out of me for the second days lifts.

A big thanks again to peter martin for showing us around and for signing and commenting in my copy or "of stones and strength"

some of the locations are awesome, there are more stones turning up all the time, two very big ones down near lockerbie (have just been found) and three very close to the dinnies (nichol stones avalable next year) as well as a few expected to turn up at some castles around the highlands too

is there a map of scotland with these stones' locations on? I wouldn't mind a go at some point in the future but the logistics would have to be "doable"
The only thing stopping me fucking your wife and shooting your dog is if I can't find you, and I found you.

we where talking to peter and will try and put together a complet map of where the stones are situated with OS grid referances as a GPS wont work properly nor are simple directions if i hadnt been following peter i would have driven right past the fianna stone

Video of the lifts http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ikBJXRaHIh8

Have a smaller clip of the first lift from a different angle which clearly shows it clear ground. Need to edit it & post on youtube.

The "Nicol" stones were a blast to lift even though I only managed the smaller ones. A great addition to the whole stone lifting scene once they are available for everyone to lift.

Again thanks to Peter Martin for the time he gave to show us other stones which we would never have found on our own.
