I have put together a page of all the competitions that I have competed in since 1986. Luckily I have kept results and training books over all the years, so it wasn't so hard to do. Here are these results from all of these contests.
Items in the World of Strength shop can now be delivered by courier.
Also please check out our newly-compiled British Armwrestling Championships results back to 1978 here.
If you know any of the missing results, etc please pass the information on.
VULCAN GRIPPERS ARE BACK IN STOCK
BATCH 3 IS READY!
These are sold with the new Red/Black spring. This is a tougher red spring, about 2 levels - 10% stronger than previous red springs. I hand test every gripper and spring in quality control. These springs are great, but the steel is tougher. It is no problem because as a training tool it is still the same. I've also been thinking about the certification process and feel that everyone should use the same gripper now. So I have decided that the gripper for official certifications will be my gripper from Batch 1. I will bring it to all the grip comps in the UK for people to certify on. I will still keep the list of those who certified previously on their own grippers.
ALSO JUST RECEIVED NEW BATCHES OF THE ORBIGRIP (Batch 2) AND THE WRIST DEVELOPER (Batch 3).
If you want to pack on some size on your forearm, get stronger or faster wrists, or need to rehab or even prehab this area, then this tool is for you. An unbelievable smooth, useful and innovative tool, the OrbiGrip is soon going to be known around the strength world. Obviously it has massive value to all strength athletes, but it would also be a must-have training tool for sports like tennis, badminton, squash, climbing, martial arts and golf.
If you’re interested in strongman/women then Poland is the place to go. This is a country where I watched Jarek Dymek on TV in the morning advertising VibroAction (I think), bought Super Glue with Mariusz on the front of the packaging from a supermarket in the afternoon, and then in the evening watched Aneta Florczyk on TV in Dancing on Ice. Strongman is their second sport, and from what I saw in our stay it definitely is very popular.
Roman Liebrecht, Boguslaw, Tean Aneta and of course all the sponsors have got to be commended on the extremely well run, fast-paced, entertaining contest. Thousands came to watch the contest, and the ones at the front never moved except for a chance of an autograph from one of the competitors for over 4 hours. With 8 events, 9 competitors, 4 t-shirt changes, and appearances by dancers there was always something going on – perfect!
My piece on Elizabeth is that she was a little disappointed on some of her performances, as she knew what she did in training. Mistakes were done, and WILL be learned from. I saw a brave lady battling right to the end, even when the unexpected problems occurred. There will be another day.
The events and weights were all good; it was a very well balanced contest.
The competitors were super strong, very friendly and hopefully we will meet up again in the future. I haven’t got all the results (hopefully Boguslaw can send them to me), but believe me there were some incredible performances!
Elizabeth got a forearm workout with all the autographs she signed, and hopefully the fans enjoyed the experience as much as we did.
Many thanks to our sponsor Jackal's Gym, and to all the well wishes, messages and phone calls!
1. Farmers walk for distance (72.5kg each hand)
2. Conan's circle (200 kg)
3. Axle for reps (70 kg)
4. Yoke (210 kg)
5. Car Hold (about 200kg)
6. Log lift (Max)
7. Weight for height (12.5 kg)
8. Deadlift for reps (180 kg)
Please look in the World of Strength shop to see the versitile Yoke Strength Unit - we use it a lot in our training, and it's ideal if you train on your own as no spotters are needed (see the exercises you can do with it). Right now we are absorbing a lot of the increase in steel prices, but the cost is going up monthly at this time with China using so much of it, so maybe a few price increases will have to be done in the future.
These are the new 35, 40 and 45kg pinch pastille plates I am having made ready for next year's Champion of Champions contest. This is a sneak preview from when I was at the manufacturer's today.
Want to see the Titan's Tank in action? Keep an eye out for it being showcased at the Severn Valley strongman competition and Britain's Strongest Woman at the end of June. If you're planning on attending as a competitor or a spectator and you want to purchase a TT, please let me know. We will be offering the two Tanks being used in the contest with a £10 discount for anyone wanting to take one home on the day. It'll save you a trip to collect or the expense of a courier. If you plan to order anything else that you'd like to collect at the time, please do get in touch ASAP as some pieces of equipment take a few weeks for us to receive from the manufacturer.
Please check out the new Strongman products (Titan's Tank - The All-in-One Adjustable Frame Carry, Farmers & Duck Walks, The Sled and The Yoke) available in the World of Strength shop here.
VULCAN HAND GRIPPER - BATCH 2
The grippers arrived yesterday, and I put the final touches to them like an assembly line. This included stamping the handle with the number '2', putting the new stickers on them, spraying the new springs after testing them. I then test each gripper by hand with 3-4 reps at Level 7 on each gripper, and after 50 grippers this produced quite a pump! I then can send off the grippers knowing that they are all roughly in the same ball park.
Couple of new products added to the shop today. These include a Throwing Ring for Highland Games and Strongman comps (also a great training tool); and some suede and nubuck wraps.
Have spent much of the day getting every UK grip contest there has ever been up on my site. So please have a look at these 'blasts from the past' here!
If you're really keen on this stuff there are a couple of dvds in my shop of grip contests from the early 90's check here.
After todays training with Elizabeth and Hanne I logged onto the Iron History site and was greeted by the WONDERFUL news that Laine Snook has been in contact with Mr Fenton and found out that he still has the 140 and 153lb Thomas Inch dumbells! Well done Laine, I had tried to track down Mr Fenton in the past, even writing and getting a reply from the new home owner of the address that I had, but the trail ended there.
What wonderful news that they are still alive. Bravo Laine!!
Elizabeth lifting the 53kg 'Baby' Inch dumbell in her sponsors shirt. Jackall's Gym for all your Rehband, tacky and strongman equipment. Great service from great strongmen!
I've just renovated an old globe barbell that is over a 100 years old. This was kindly given to me by Jim Mills, who was given it by his father. Jim's father (also Jim) was a world record holder in cue levering and also was a strongman/weightlifter. This welcome addition to my collection weighs in at 44.8k (98.7lb) empty.
Week 3 of Elizabeth's training for the World's Strongest Woman comp.
Hope you enjoy, and cheer her on!
Elizabeth Horne has just got her invite for this years World's Strongest Woman contest. This is in Poland on May 24th. Click here for info.
The Vulcan hand gripper is a fantastic new training device that is designed to allow your gripper crushing prowess to progress slowly and steadily from strength to strength without having to buy more and more grippers - it will take you from the lightest rehab training right up to the heaviest gripper close all in one package!
The Vulcan is an adjustable 'nutcracker' style gripper manufactured with the old school attitude of the 1960s Iron Man grippers. Back in the 60s, Warren Tetting supplied the Iron Man magazine with grippers that were solid steel, and with no knurling. These were called the ‘Heavy’, ‘Extra Heavy’ and the ‘Super’ Gripper, and I am lucky enough to have these 3 grippers in my collection. The 'Super' is above the strength of a #3 gripper. When you close the 'Super' with no knurling - you know you are strong!
Now this new gripper has some great similarities to these early grippers but there is no skew at all with this totally new design, which enables it to have a super-smooth closing action. If you are a one-gripper kind of person, then this is for you (and if you're not, it is a great addition to your collection!). I will be setting up ranking lists for the Vulcan and certification processes too.
In our most recent training programme we train daily and on a variety of exercises. Fitness, agility, and feats mix with strength and bodybuilding training. It has worked very well, and strengthened our weak areas, made us fitter, and kept us away from training our injured parts. We are performing at a Weightlifting Hall of Fame show on Sunday, and have just gone through the repertoire. I hope they enjoy it!
We have just received our newest batch of Wrist Developers (lowest machine in picture). These are the Mk 3 type, and as you can see have some significant alterations. The Wrist Developer has constantly evolved since its inception, and this new one is no exception. The spring fastening arms have been reduced in length by over an inch, as we found that the extra length just was not necessary at all. We also made 0.5" marks for the spring, starting at the #0.5 mark I told you to file on your machine, allowing better incremental measures. The bottom supporting handle was lengthened by just over an inch to allow it to be even more usable.
Over the time I'm sure this will just be one of many alterations to the machine, please see all the previous prototypes in the picture along with the new machine.
